Warm –up is important to warm up your joints before starting any type of exercise especially Kung-Fu or Tai-chi.
Our warm-up goes through all the muscle groups and joint movements. We start from the head and move our way down the body and finish off with the toes.
Next we stretch mostly two partner stretches focusing on the lower half of the body. As a partner we try to feel the limit of the person we are stretching let them relax into the stretch. Relaxing in the stretch is important as the person will be able to go lower.
Kicks are used to help increase our flexibility and train to loosen our legs we do kicks and applicable kicks.
After kicks we practice single moves. Whether it is Tai chi or Kung Fu we perform single moves. Single moves are important to work on the detail of the move as well as the application of the move. In our style we focus on understanding detail in the body, practicing single moves with the focus on the detail will help improve our martial arts. In Tai Chi we use push hands to train our sensitivity and practice practical application.
When the single moves are completed we move into basics. Basics are the foundation of Kung Fu and Tai chi. Basics include stance work. Going through what we consider the eight basic stances. Horse Stance, Bow stance, Kneeling Stance, Cat Stance, Crane Stance, Pok Stance , Twist Stance, and Tai Chi Stance
Now we Practice Forms, Forms old and new are practiced. Each student practices their own forms. Each student will have individual forms based on their body type and attitude. Why do I practice forms, to retain the culture and the traditional feeling of Kung Fu. Everyone practices forms for a different reason.
Learning, this is where we learn more detail on the forms, new forms or anything else the instructor wants to teach us including self-defence.
Practice Hard, Practice for Fun,
And see you next time,
