Last blog I talked about our schedule, this time I will focus on fundamentals.

The Fundamentals of Kung Fu in my view are not how flashy a move looks or how low a stance is. There is a standard for the stances. Fundamentals are how much detail is in the move. Can you do the move with the detail without thinking. Where is the power coming from for the move and where is it going to. In our Traditional Kung Fu we talk about Focus, Stance, Groupings, Detail and using the hip.

You will notice that we post the same video more than once. The videos are to show progression in our Fundamentals as well as showing improvements in the Form.

First we learn the move. Then we put in the detail in the body. To put the detail in the body it takes lots of practice and repetition. Then we video it again showing the detail. We Focus for months to years on the fundamentals. We do this as we are improving our fundamentals, forms and knowledge of the moves.

We always practice the basics. Basics help with the fundamentals and the Forms.

Without a strong foundation we believe the Kung Fu will never be good.

On Sunday’s practice we spent one hour on one move. It was fun trying to get the move into the body. We spend this hour working on the detail, focus and different flavors of the same move. This type of practice helps us get deep into the moves detail. This practice also helped our forms have more detail as well.

Thanks again,

Hard Practice is Fun Practice
